Support for Android 5 is ending

Soon – I don’t know when, exactly – I will need to release an update to Performance Tracks that will not be compatible with Android 5 and 5.1.

I built Performance Tracks to be a simple, inexpensive way to run tracks on stage. Part of that goal is to support older devices as long as possible. Android 5.1 “Lollipop” was released in 2014 – that’s 12 years ago, as of this post – and official support ended in 2018, and Google Play stopped supporting this version of Android in 2024.

Until now, I have been able to keep supporting these versions of Android. But the frameworks, tooling and ecosystem I use to build and support Performance Tracks has evolved, and now those things are incompatible with Android 5 and 5.1.

What happens? The app will keep running, and you can even re-install it from Google Play. But you will stop getting any updates from us. I hope that doesn’t give you too much trouble, but there isn’t anything I can do, anymore.
